cal|lus «KAL uhs», noun, plural -lus|es, verb.
–n. Also, callosity.
1. a hard, thickened place on the skin.
2. a new growth to unite the ends of a broken bone.
3. a) a substance that grows over the wounds of plants. b) the thickening of the substance of the perforated septa (dividing walls) between sieve cells. c) the thickening formed over the end of a cutting before it sends forth roots. d) any unusually hard formation in or on a plant.
